Love and Hate - Exhibition I vs. Fort Hays State

Blog: Just Another Blog

I am going to try and make this a regular thing the day or two after a KU game.

I loved...

...watching our three freshmen on the floor at the same time. That's a legitimate lineup at the D-1 level.

...watching Elijah Johnson jump.

...seeing X spark the break by getting his hand on a pass, then diving on the floor for the loose ball and finding the correct outlet.

...the freshmen in general. BTW, all three of those guys are big for their size/position. They all have NBA ready bodies.

...Tyshawn's aggressiveness to the rim. He has his slither back.

...Sherron looking very much in control during this game. He never pressed himself, just played his game. Hit open shots, shut down a Hays run with a couple of transition threes, and managed the game.

...Thomas Robinson's tenacity. You can't box him out because he doesn't want to be boxed out. Some rebounders get rebounds because they get position. TRob gets rebounds because whether he is in position or not, he pursues the basketball.

I hated...(or really disliked)

...TRob's fouling. I love his pursuit of the ball, but he has to learn how to get position with his feet instead of his hands.

...the sloppy ballhandling. We threw away more than a couple of positions with just horrendous passing.

...the defense. Although its hard to hate something that was at times non-existent.

...the amount of fouls called in this game overall. It killed the flow of the game. It seemed like there were 100 foul calls (actually 51). KU shot over 40 FTs. A whole restaurant fouled out (Five Guys). Just ridiculous. Of course, with their depth, KU can withstand that better than most, but it makes the games less fun to watch.
